Benefits of Becoming a Twitter Twenius

Read on or watch the Free Video.  When I watched this video the light bulb went on within minutes.  Prior to the viewing, I couldn’t come up with a twitter strategy for Kiss Marketing, it just didn’t make sense.

Old Twitter Strategy:  Say what?

New Twitter Strategy:  We will use twitter to grow the KISS brand by sharing bytes of knowledge about Internet marketing, business development, search engine optimization, website design, and much more with people who want to learn.

Are you ready to become a twenius?

Are you ready to become a twenius?

It seems like only yesterday that setting up a web site was the “cool” thing to do. Then suddenly, blogs became the popular thing and many raced to put up a blog and began blogging. But that was yesterday, and today is today. All the talk now is of “Social Media” with Twitter and Facebook at the top of the list. It’s the newest phase in online communication, it’s the newest phase in community, and as you might expect, it’s starting to catch the attention of businesses and marketers too.

There’s little doubt that Twitter has established itself as a major mode of social communication in the mobile and online world. Movie Stars, athletes, government officials and well known people from @SnoopDogg to @BenKweller to @JoeyMcIntyre to @MikeyWay and others, are all on Twitter.

But Twitter is far more amazing than that. What a lot of people do not realize is that Twitter is a local area connection tool too. More likely than not, your town municipal government is using Twitter, your local TV news, your local Fire Department, your library, your community college, even the guy that mowed your lawn recently. If they are not on Twitter today, they’ll likely be on tomorrow.

But there’s another audience moving with great interest toward Twitter. It’s an amazing transition of a more serious nature where business owners (both large and small) including entrepreneurs and home-based businesses are beginning to tap the grand potential of Twitter. When you see companies such as: @MarriottIntl, @TheHomeDepot or @lacoste start lining up on the Twitter bandwagon, it’s definitely time to to start contemplating YOUR Twitter plan.

It is likely that this “business phenomena” boils down to the commonly known fact that a significant amount of business actually occurs in social gatherings, at cocktail parties, on the golf course, or at other social events. Now, through Twitter it’s become possible, if not down right easy, to benefit from an online version of a non-stop cocktail party of incredible proportions.

The statistics and stories are incredible:

  • How powerful is a reTweet? “Social network users are 3 times more likely to trust the opinions of peers over advertising when making purchase decisions.” ~JupiterResearch
  • “88% of marketers surveyed are interested in using social media to market their businesses, BUT 72% have only been doing so for a few months or less. A significant 64% of marketers are using social media for 5 hours or more each week and 39% for 10 or more hours weekly.”
  • “The average unique visitor went to Twitter.com 14 times during the month and spent an average of seven minutes on the site.”

What’s the meaning of all this? It means that if you are an entrepreneur or own a business, you must go directly to Twitter, do not pass go, do not collect $200, and set up your own Twitter account.

Can it possibly be that simple?

Well, not exactly. Once you have your Twitter account opened, that’s when the mystery begins. It’s a very very rudimentary concept, but like a Rubik’s Cube, unless you know WHAT to do, you’ll soon be scratching your head.

The good news is there’s help. Internet strategist and social media marketing expert, Dan Hollings has spent the past year researching and testing Twitter strategies for business. Along the way, Dan wrote 100 of the most popular Twitter tips found anywhere online. Next he created a toolbar for Mac or PC that puts over 235 Twitter tools, tips and apps easily within reach. Recently, he released his “tour de force” Twitter training program called, “Twitter Twenius” (that’s Twitter-talk for genius).

Here is a basic Twitter tip, to wet your whistle:

Socially bookmark your better Twitter postings (I’m talking individual tweet status pages). Yes they have SEO value. Services such as Twitchboard and Fleck Lite automate social bookmarking in different ways. You can of course go heavy-duty with services like Onlywire or SocialPoster.

Without doubt, there’s so much more to learn, however if you’re looking for killer strategies for making money using Twitter or a way to rev-up the Twitter rocket boosters on all your marketing campaigns from local to international, I wholeheartedly recommend Twitter Twenius.

I watched Dan Hollings free video and my creative juices started to boil. If you are serious about growing your business and connecting to your customers start with Twitter Twenius

Back to Basics

CVS is doing it right.

I wanted to plug CVS Pharmacy because they are doing it right.  They just delivered an Rx to our door for free and the delivery person said “it was great meeting you, see you next month”.  That simple deed makes “me” the customer feel important.  When a customer feels important they become loyal to your business.  We need to get back to basics and each and every business needs to realize that people do business with people … not companies.  CVS is a big company but each store is a neighborhood pharmacy.

They also do a lot of work with Extreme Home Makeover.  Any company that is “giving” back is at the top of my list.

Helping people in need and making your customers feel special is so much better for your brand than plastering billboards all over the roads, interrupting their favorite television shows, spamming their email boxes, or littering their mailboxes with junk.  Keep it simple!

CVS … Keep up the great work.  You are MY neighborhood pharmacy.

What have you done?

Describe your relevant work history, awards and accomplishments.

My love for business and entrepreneurship started in 1974, I was 10.

I knew I wanted to be a businesswoman when I was ten years old and asked my parents for a typewriter for Christmas. I was so excited when I opened that present! I was trained to play classical piano and that made typing a breeze. I never would have imagined what an integral skill typing would be in my future (computer programming, website design, emailing, blogging, writing, etc…).

My father was an entrepreneur and I went to his Engineering Firm with him often. Once I perfected typing he began paying me to type documents for the military, Boeing, and many other large companies. My father’s love for business was easily passed on to me.

In high school instead of running with the popular crowd I opted in to the work-study program. While everyone was participating in sports and hanging out with their friends after school I was busy building my career. I worked at a printing company briefly until finding my niche in the Information Technology field. The year was 1978 and I still remember every second of that job interview today; every nook and cranny of the office, the smell of the mainframe computers running, the magnetic tapes, … everything. I knew at that moment I was in my element, like a bird taking flight. The company gave me a test to measure my brain’s ability to compute. I wasn’t even old enough to drive but scored higher on the test and completed it faster than anyone in the company’s history. I continued working with that company for the next 5 years. Before leaving at age 20 I was managing the data entry department, both the day shift and the night shift.

In 1996, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from USF with a degree from the College of Business in Management Information Systems (MIS). Standing in the parking lot after completing my last class … I said to myself, “I never have to drive to Tampa again”. Well the Universe had a different plan. I received a faculty position job offer at U.S.F. that I couldn’t refuse. I drove to Tampa for another 4 ½ years. I managed the data center at USF/FMHI, built the center’s first website, spoke at 2 national conferences on implementing technology at Mental Health Institutes, wrote custom software to run the state funded institutes, and traveled throughout Florida training. One of the Ph.D.’s I worked for told me in the hall, “Deirdre, you won’t stay here you will be the President of your own company one day.” And he was right!

After leaving U.S.F. I spent the next few years growing my knowledge base by working as an Independent contractor with a local I.T. consulting firm. This allowed me to work on numerous projects, in different industries, utilizing an array of technology. At one of my contracts I worked directly under a Microsoft Project Manager. The skills I learned while getting paid a very high contractor rate were priceless.

After gaining enough knowledge in the field I ventured out on my own. My entrepreneurial spirit would never have been happy working in the framework of Corporate America.

KISS Marketing, Inc. was born July 9, 2001. I felt like Christopher Columbus, Internet Marketing was definitely “new” territory in Tampa Bay. Many people didn’t have email addresses or websites, and Internet Marketing was a foreign language. Our first project was opening one of Tampa Bay’s first local website portals, PinellasLife.com, which many know today as Go Local Tampa Bay. The website is currently ranked as one of the best in the area and on all of the search engines. The growth of the Internet has taken the company and myself into areas I would never have imagined. We currently own and operate several vertical and local online directories each gaining many accolades in the industry.

It has been over 30 years since I opened that typewriter box and I look forward to my next 30 years. In today’s digital world there is no telling what the future holds but I am excited about unwrapping every present along the path to success!

Business Advice

What is the best business advice that you can offer or that has been passed onto you?

Follow YOUR Dreams and NEVER Give Up!

The best business advice that was passed on to me was by my father.  He was a risk taker and visionary and always followed his dreams.  I have vivid memories of he and my mother discussing him opening his own company.  At the time he was an executive at Magnavox and had a salary that matched his position, three young children, and a new house.  He wanted to open his own business more than anything and he followed his dream.

His engineering company, Energystics, grew to big one of the largest and most successful in Washington DC.  He was roasted by Boeing and made huge contributions to his field.  He taught me to follow my passion and the money would follow … the greater the risk, the greater the reward.

I pass this advice on to many hoping that it will stick to a few.

Stop Interrupting Me

Every time I turn on the TV there is a commercial playing.  This didn’t used to happen so I decided to conduct a little statistics study last night to find out what was going on.

I documented the time, number of commercials, and advertisers during two news shows (6:00 p.m. Local News & 6:30 p.m. National News).  The results where surprising, at least to me.

After the first 12 – 15 minutes of free time I was interrupted with at least 6 commercials every 2 minutes (are you kidding me).  30 commercials on a 30-minute news show is too much noise!  Today I can only remember 1 of the commercials.  I actually wrote down each company with the type of product they were marketing and still can’t remember them.  Why are companies still wasting money on this type of advertising?

Mass Marketing (Interruption Marketing is DEAD, or on its way to the grave) and I am thankful for it.  Stop the madness and move your advertising dollars in to areas that actually produce a high Return on Investment.

Smart Marketing: Sears and Extreme Home Makeover (smart, very smart).

Brand Assassination: Sprint and Desperate Housewives (associating your brand with lying and adultry is the worst marketing campaign I have seen to date – what were they thinking!  As Donald Trump says “You’re FIRED”.)

I personally don’t watch much network or cable television because there is not enough content worth my time.  Imagine the number of mind viruses that are creeping into your brain every time you have the television on … that is very scary, especially for our kids.

In the future this will change and I look forward to it.  I remember growing up in Fort Wayne Indiana … we had 3 channels on the TV and there was always something good to watch with limited commercial breaks.  Quality not Quantity will always win.

Turn OFF the TV and have an interruption free day,

Leadership Simplified Book Preface

THE Field Guide for Savvy Leaders
Douglas A. Van Dyke, MBA

Preface

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” – Amelia Earhart, American aviator, 1897 – 1937

This book is about action: results, growing skills, enhancing technique, getting things done. Also, this book is between you and me. I want to talk with you and share facts, ideas, and concepts.  In addition, I have sought to structure each chapter so as to get to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible. Hopefully this book will resonate with you and stir action. Who knows, while reading it you may even smile a time or two.

Feel free to skip around. Review the Table of Contents and flip to a topic that interests you. Successful people are busy, so do not hesitate to go directly to a section that will help you quickly embrace a fresh idea or pick up a new business tool. In short, use this book however it will enhance your effectiveness.

My experience over the past twenty-five years is that people who take action are successful. Mind you, action does not always lead to success. It is merely an attempt to move forward, and forward-thinkers drive accomplishment and innovation. In any case, it is my hope that you use this book as a field guide. It is packed full of proven items developed while coaching thousands of professionals and working with hundreds of organizations throughout the United States.
